Kenneth Meyers

Born in Northern California in 1966, Ken Meyers early interests in art included both music and photography. When he was 11 years old, he saved up enough money to purchase a Canon 35mm camera and later became the photographer for his school newspaper and yearbook.

After college at Chico State University (B.S. 1990 ) and his initial professional work, a spark re-ignited his passion for photography after seeing some large, color landscape images in a gallery that were made by photographer Bill La Brie. He quizzed La Brie about his method for making such large, sharp photographs and he explained his procedures, including using a 4x5 view camera. Meyers became consumed with determination to learn about all aspects of photography. This started his path into black and white, large format photography studying under several contemporary masters including Alan Ross, John Sexton, and Richard Garrod at a number of group and private workshops.

Some of Meyers' early influences also included Brett Weston, Wynn Bullock, Ruth Bernhard and Paul Caponigro. He works in the tradition of many of the pioneers of West Coast photography - he photographs with an 8x10 view camera and prefers to make contact prints.

Meyers and his wife Stephanie and their four children reside in Nevada City, California.

He is currently represented by Photography West Gallery in Carmel, California.
